A winter weather advisory has been updated for Syracuse and Central New York, with revised snowfall predictions now anticipating total accumulations of between 2 and 6 inches, according to the National Weather Service. This marks a decrease from earlier estimates that forecasted 4 to 8 inches of snow.
While Syracuse and much of Central New York are facing milder totals, certain areas of Upstate New York, including Oswego and parts of Western New York, are still projected to receive significant snowfall, potentially up to a foot.
Travelers should prepare for potentially challenging conditions, particularly impacting commutes on Thursday morning and evening, as hazardous weather conditions may arise. The forecast indicates snow showers will begin Wednesday night in Central New York and could start as rain before transitioning entirely to snow after 4 a.m. Thursday, leading to an overnight accumulation of approximately one inch as temperatures drop to around 23 degrees.
Thursday is expected to continue with snow showers, with temperatures further falling to approximately 17 degrees by 5 p.m., and another inch of snowfall anticipated during the day. The heaviest snow is expected Thursday night, particularly before 7 p.m., with an additional 2 inches projected.
Fortunately, forecasts indicate that conditions will begin to improve by Friday, with only a slight chance of additional snow showers after 1 p.m. and temperatures rising to a high near 29 degrees. As winter weather progresses, residents and travelers alike are advised to stay cautious and informed to navigate the conditions effectively.
