Syracuse Football will take on No. 23 Georgia Tech at the Dome in the second game of the 2024 season.

Syracuse enters the matchup with a 1-0 record after triumphing over the Ohio Bobcats in their opener. Meanwhile, Georgia Tech boasts a 2-0 record, having secured an upset victory against Florida State and a convincing win over Georgia State in their previous games.

This game marks Fran Brown’s first chance to claim a significant win with the Orange.

In the first quarter at 12:21, Syracuse scored first with a touchdown as Kyle McCord connected with Trebor Pena on a 75-yard drive, putting the Orange up 7-0. At 7:52, Georgia Tech responded when quarterback Haynes King executed a rushing touchdown after a missed tackle, tying the game at 7-7 following a review confirming his knee was not down.

With 1:58 remaining in the first quarter, Syracuse faced a setback when Brady Denaburg’s field goal attempt was blocked, leaving the score tied at 7-7.

Moving into the second quarter at 12:27, Trebor Pena caught his fourth touchdown of the season, giving Syracuse a 14-7 lead after another pass from McCord. At 6:19, McCord connected with Oronde Gadsden II for a second touchdown, extending Syracuse’s lead to 21-7 as they racked up 293 yards on 35 plays.

Georgia Tech struck back at 4:39 with a rushing touchdown from Haynes King, narrowing Syracuse’s lead to 21-14. With 1:29 left in the half, Georgia Tech received excellent field position after a blocked punt by Jack Stonehouse and failed to capitalize, missing a 45-yard field goal attempt as the halftime clock expired with the score at 21-14 in favor of Syracuse.

In the third quarter at 6:51, Brady Denaburg added a field goal from 33 yards, increasing Syracuse’s lead to 24-14.

In the fourth quarter at 8:39, Kyle McCord threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Oronde Gadsden II, pushing the score to 31-14. However, Haynes King helped Georgia Tech respond with a touchdown to Chase Lane at 5:08, making it 31-21.

The drama continued as Georgia Tech successfully recovered an onside kick just two seconds later, keeping the game alive.
