Syracuse vs. Georgia Tech: A Clash for Early Season Supremacy!

Syracuse Football is set to face No. 23 Georgia Tech at the Dome for their second game of the 2024 season. Currently, Syracuse holds a record of 1-0 after their victory over the Ohio Bobcats in the season opener. Meanwhile, Georgia Tech comes into the game with a 2-0 record, having upset Florida State in their first match and comfortably defeated Georgia State in Week 2.

This matchup presents an important opportunity for head coach Fran Brown to secure a key victory for the Orange.

The scoring began in the first quarter with 12:21 remaining when Syracuse’s Kyle McCord delivered an impressive touchdown pass to Trebor Pena, capping off a seven-play, 75-yard drive. The score stood at Syracuse 7, Georgia Tech 0.

At 7:52 in the first quarter, Georgia Tech responded. Quarterback Haynes King sprinted into the end zone after a missed tackle, tying the game at 7-7 after a review confirmed he was not down.

Later in the quarter, at 1:58, Syracuse’s Brady Denaburg had a field goal attempt blocked, resulting in a turnover on downs with the score still tied at 7-7.

As the second quarter began, at 12:27, Trebor Pena recorded his second touchdown of the game, bringing his season total to four. McCord threw another pass into the end zone, giving Syracuse a 14-7 lead.

At 6:19 in the second quarter, McCord connected with Oronde Gadsden II for a touchdown, extending the Orange’s lead to 14 points with a score of 21-7. Syracuse showcased a commanding performance with 35 plays accumulating 293 yards.

However, Georgia Tech quickly responded at 4:39 with another rushing touchdown by Haynes King, reducing the deficit to 21-14.

Syracuse’s Jack Stonehouse had a punt blocked at 1:29, placing Georgia Tech in good field position starting at their own 41-yard line with two timeouts remaining. The half ended with Georgia Tech missing a 45-yard field goal as time expired, keeping the score at Syracuse 21, Georgia Tech 14.

In the third quarter, at 6:51, Brady Denaburg successfully kicked a 33-yard field goal, marking Syracuse’s largest lead of the day at 24-14.

The fourth quarter saw more action, starting with a 17-yard touchdown pass from McCord to Gadsden II, bringing the score to 31-14 for Syracuse at 8:39.

At 5:08, Georgia Tech’s King connected with Chase Lane for a touchdown, narrowing the score to 31-21. Just moments later, at 5:06, Georgia Tech successfully recovered an onside kick, keeping the pressure on Syracuse.
