Syracuse Stuns No. 23 Georgia Tech in Thrilling Showdown

Syracuse Football faced off against No. 23 Georgia Tech at the Dome for their second game of the 2024 season, entering the contest with a 1-0 record after defeating the Ohio Bobcats in their opener. Georgia Tech, meanwhile, was 2-0, having earned a surprise victory against Florida State and a solid win over Georgia State.

The game began with a strong performance from Syracuse, as quarterback Kyle McCord connected with Trebor Pena for a touchdown, capping a seven-play, 75-yard drive to put the Orange up 7-0. Shortly after, Georgia Tech’s Haynes King tied the game with a rushing touchdown, having been ruled down by the officials after a review.

Syracuse regained the lead in the second quarter with another touchdown from Pena, showcasing McCord’s passing ability. The Orange extended their advantage to 14 points with a touchdown from Oronde Gadsden II, but Georgia Tech responded quickly with another rushing touchdown from King.

Despite a blocked punt by Syracuse, the halftime score stood at 21-14 in favor of the Orange after Georgia Tech missed a 45-yard field goal attempt as time expired.

In the third quarter, Brady Denaburg added a field goal for Syracuse, increasing their lead to 24-14. The Orange continued to pressure Georgia Tech in the fourth quarter, with McCord finding Gadsden II again for a touchdown, making it 31-14.

Georgia Tech battled back when King connected with Chase Lane for a touchdown, but they quickly faced a challenge as they attempted an onside kick after scoring.
