The Syracuse City School District has announced early dismissals for several of its schools in response to anticipated high temperatures early next week. The decision aims to ensure the safety and comfort of students during extreme weather conditions.
According to a district spokesperson, elementary, middle, and pre-K-8 schools will end their day at staggered times on June 23, 24, and 25, specifically at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., and noon, based on each school’s starting time. Faculty and staff at these institutions will be released shortly after students, at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 12:30 p.m., respectively.
Importantly, high school Regents exams and scoring will proceed as planned since high school buildings are equipped with air conditioning. Consequently, high school students and staff will maintain their usual schedules during these days.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul has also advised residents to take the extreme heat into account when making plans for the upcoming week, urging caution and preparedness.
