As summer kicks off with warmer weather and outdoor gatherings, a recent ice cream recall is prompting caution among dessert lovers. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a recall for 16,000 gallons of ice cream produced by Wells Enterprises due to the presence of plastic in the products.
The recall, categorized as a Class II, indicates a situation where using or being exposed to the affected items could cause temporary or reversible health effects, although the risk of serious health consequences is low. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported so far.
The recall affects 22 different ice cream products, with the most impacted being “Vanilla Frozen Yogurt,” which accounts for a total of 5,280 tubs. Consumers are advised to check their freezers for the affected products, which come in 3-gallon tubs and have expiration dates between March 2025 and October 2026.
Among the notable products recalled are the following:
– Rocky Road Flavored Ice Cream (UPC: 070640050314, Lot 50009)
– Mocha Almond Fudge Ice Cream (UPC: 070640050420, Lot 50016)
– Country Rich Vanilla Ice Cream (UPC: 070640600052, Lot 50085)
– Cotton Candy Flavored Ice Cream (UPC: 070640050482, Lot 50018)
Despite this setback, consumers can still enjoy a wide range of ice cream options this summer as long as they ensure their products do not come from the recalled list. As we embrace the joys of summer, staying informed helps everyone make safer choices while indulging in seasonal treats.
