The Rooster Chicken End of the Year Volleyball Tournament highlighted the Heartland Warriors as a remarkable team amidst over 40 competitors in a touching display of community spirit and resilience.

Throughout the tournament, the Warriors wore black armbands in memory of their teammate’s child, baby Susana, who sadly passed away recently. Team captain Sally Aitcheson spoke about the significance of the armbands, emphasizing the profound connection the team had with baby Susana.

“Whenever we participate in competitions, we always have camp, and baby was always there with us. We all became attached to baby Susana. This tournament brought us back together, and we decided to dedicate all our games to her,” Aitcheson remarked, highlighting the emotional significance of their return to play during such a challenging time.

Even in their grief, Aitcheson pointed out that baby Susana’s passing has inadvertently strengthened the team’s unity, helping them grow closer as they faced their collective loss. The tournament, held at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva, concluded yesterday, serving as not only a competitive event but also a moment of solidarity and remembrance for the Heartland Warriors.

This tribute reflects the team’s remarkable strength in the face of adversity and underscores the critical role that community and support play in navigating personal hardships. Their experience serves as a testament to the power of togetherness in overcoming tragedy, inspiring both participants and spectators alike.
