FIJI Ports Terminal Limited is kicking off the New Year on a positive note, with plans for 43 ship arrivals throughout January at Suva port. This impressive mix of vessels is poised to enhance tourism and invigorate the local economy.
The schedule is predominantly filled with container ships, which are expected to make 25 visits this month. Among these are five notable cruise ships: Discovery Princess, Costa Deliziosa, Riviera, Noordam, and Zaandam. Their arrivals are anticipated to draw tourists and generate significant revenue for the capital city.
In addition to the cruise ships, the port will accommodate a variety of other vessels. This includes a cable ship, a cargo ship, a clinker, three tankers, and two research vessels. Noteworthy arrivals expected this week include the car carrier Lake Travis, the research vessel MV Anuanua Moana, and several container ships, namely Neptune Matua, Southern Pearl, Medkon Ten, Kota Hapas, and Majuro Chief. The tanker Hafnia Merlin is also on the scheduled list.
This busy month is further highlighted by the recent presence of the Chinese research vessel Yuan Wang 5, with its sister ship, Yuan Wang 6, expected to dock on Friday, January 9. These research vessels underscore Fiji’s strategic role in maritime activities.
With such promising numbers to begin the year, the potential growth in tourism and economic development appears bright. The local communities surrounding Suva are set to benefit greatly from the anticipated surge of vessels and visitors, fostering a sense of optimism for the months ahead.
