Recent police operations in Suva have led to the arrests of eight individuals, including both Chinese nationals and local residents, following the discovery of methamphetamine in several locations. Among those detained is an alleged illegal immigrant, highlighting the complexities of addressing drug-related crimes in the region.
During the crackdown in Flagstaff, law enforcement apprehended Josua Ravula and Yin Qing Qing, seizing 42.95 grams of methamphetamine. Both face charges for unlawful possession of illicit substances and possessing property believed to be derived from criminal activity. Considering Qing’s Mandarin language requirement, a Mandarin interpreter will be made available when her case continues on October 9.
Meanwhile, a raid on Rewa St resulted in the arrest of Yu Yang Fang, Minghui Dai, and Zhou Lan, all of whom face similar charges to their counterparts in Flagstaff, with a court appearance set for October 3. A subsequent operation on the same street led to the detention of three more suspects: Logamaisino Baules, also known as Lagomarcion Ngirchobekelou, Peniasi Ganilau Delai, and Ginna Mukunghoa Choi. Though found with a smaller quantity of methamphetamine (0.345 grams), they, too, face charges of unlawful possession. Baules is further charged with an immigration infraction for overstaying his visa, while Choi faces accusations related to possessing suspected criminal proceeds, discovered in various currencies.
In the courtroom, police prosecutor Jone Tupou argued against bail due to public interest concerns, but Magistrate Yogesh Prasad instructed both parties to submit formal bail applications, with the case postponed to October 27.
