Hundreds gathered at India House in Suva to celebrate the 77th Republic Day of India, marking a significant occasion for the Indian community in Fiji. The event highlighted the importance of Republic Day for Indians globally, as articulated by Suneet Mehta, the Indian High Commissioner to Fiji. Mehta conveyed that this day is of great relevance not only for those in India but also for the extensive Indian diaspora around the world.
The High Commissioner noted the deep respect that Fijians of Indian descent have for Republic Day, which commemorates the adoption of the Indian Constitution in 1950. This critical milestone embodies the values of liberty, justice, and dignity, treasured by Indians everywhere. “It’s really a special occasion for me to welcome all the Indians and friends of India here today,” Mehta shared, wishing everyone happiness, peace, and prosperity.
