Two men are currently facing serious charges related to alleged drug offenses, having failed to appear for their scheduled hearing in the Magistrates Court today. Their absence comes after their arrests last year during a police operation at a Public Rental Board property located on Mead Road in Suva.

Mikaele Kolikeinakorotubu was notably missing, which led to a bench warrant being issued for his arrest. In contrast, his co-accused, Laisiasa Bavai, who remains in custody, also did not attend the court proceedings. Bavai’s production order has been extended, and he is now scheduled to appear in court on March 4.

The arrests resulted from a raid conducted by Southern Division Police in Nabua, where officers discovered the two men attempting to destroy evidence by tossing a suspicious bag into nearby bushes. Upon searching the area, police found a black sling bag containing three zip-lock packets filled with a white, crystal-like substance suspected to be methamphetamine. Furthermore, officers seized assorted cash amounting to $5,560, raising concerns that this money could be associated with illegal drug sales.

Both individuals face charges that include unlawful possession of illicit drugs and resisting arrest. The case highlights ongoing challenges related to drug-related offenses within the community, and as it moves forward, it underscores the vigilance required by both authorities and community members in addressing these issues effectively.
