Actress Sutton Foster has initiated divorce proceedings from her husband of ten years, Ted Griffin, amidst swirling rumors regarding a potential romance with actor Hugh Jackman. Foster filed for an uncontested divorce on October 22, following the recent sale of their historic Gilded Age home in New York for $2 million.
The “Younger” star, who shared the stage with Jackman in the Broadway production of “The Music Man,” purchased their Tuxedo Park estate in 2021 for $1.6 million. She listed the property—with seven bedrooms and five bathrooms—for $2.2 million in December 2023, just months before filing for divorce.
Describing the home as “magical,” Foster had envisioned it as a perfect setting for family memories, stating that it felt like the ideal place for her daughter, Emily, to grow up. Foster recalled that Griffin discovered the house while they were seeking a permanent residence outside the city, believing it to be their “forever home.”
With their marriage ending, speculation arises that the decision to sell the property may have foreshadowed their split. Foster listed the home in the same month that rumors about her relationship with Jackman, who had recently separated from his wife of 27 years, began circulating.
Sources have indicated that Foster and Jackman’s on-stage chemistry developed into a real-life romance during their time together in “The Music Man,” which ran from December 2021 to January 2023.
Interestingly, prior to joining the cast of the show, Foster sold her Los Angeles A-frame for $1.5 million in October 2021, describing that home as a place she hoped her child could grow up in. The home, like her New York estate, was designed with the help of designer Michael Ostrow to add warmth and colorful interiors.
Built in 1895 by architect Bruce Price, the historic residence was notable not only for its design but also for its connection to Emily Post, the famed author known for her books on etiquette.
In addition to her New York estate and previous Los Angeles home, Foster has owned a penthouse in Manhattan and a lake house in Greenwood Lake, NY, which she purchased in 2010. She frequently used the lake house as a retreat from the hectic city life, feeling more at home in nature.
Jackman, who announced his separation from wife Deborra-Lee Furness 13 months prior, has not commented on the rumors surrounding his relationship with Foster. However, insiders suggest that both are committed to maintaining privacy regarding their romance, even though their relationship is reportedly serious.
