Oscar-winning actress Susan Sarandon expressed a mix of excitement and fear as she prepares to make her stage debut in the UK at The Old Vic Theatre this autumn. She will star alongside Academy Award nominee Andrea Riseborough in the U.K. premiere of Tracy Letts’ play “Mary Page Marlowe,” which chronicles 70 years in a woman’s life.
Both Sarandon and Riseborough will portray the central character at different stages of her journey, under the direction of The Old Vic’s artistic director, Matthew Warchus, who will conclude his tenure in September 2026. Sarandon, known for her roles in “Dead Man Walking” and “Feud,” has a storied history in theater, with notable appearances from her first Broadway show in 1972 to her last performance titled “Happy Talk” in 2019. In her statement, Sarandon expressed her gratitude for being part of Warchus’ final season, emphasizing her feelings of honor despite the nerves that come with such a significant debut.
