A new survey has been initiated to better understand the childcare needs in Staunton, Augusta County, and Waynesboro. Open to parents and caregivers, the survey runs through the end of June and is organized by the Community Action Partnership of Staunton, Augusta County, and Waynesboro (CAPSAW).
This effort seeks to comprehensively assess the needs of families, childcare providers, and local employers in the area. The insights gathered will be compiled into a public report that will include recommendations to inform future investments, community initiatives, and advocacy efforts aimed at improving childcare services.
The community-needs assessment will investigate various challenges in childcare, such as quality care options, availability, affordability, and workforce issues. It will also examine seasonal changes in demand and explore the unmet needs of diverse populations.
CAPSAW Executive Director Anna Leavitt emphasized the significance of quality childcare, stating, “Access to quality childcare is essential not just for families, but for the health of our entire economy.” The assessment aims to highlight gaps and coordinate efforts to ensure comprehensive support for all children and families.
The survey is conducted in collaboration with local organizations, including the Boys & Girls Club of Waynesboro, Staunton and Augusta County, and the Staunton-Augusta Family YMCA. Debra Freeman, the executive director of the Boys and Girls Club, noted, “Childcare is a lifeline for families and a launchpad for kids.” By sharing their experiences, families can help shape the support systems that are critical to the community’s well-being.
This initiative reflects a proactive approach to addressing childcare challenges, fostering collaboration among community leaders and residents to create a more supportive environment for families and children. The outcomes of this survey could lead not only to improved childcare options but also to a stronger, more resilient local economy.
