In Lafayette Parish, a new specialty license plate is promoting support for the arts in Louisiana while highlighting the talents of local graphic artist Denise Gallagher. Selected by the Louisiana Partnership for the Arts (LPA) through an open call, Gallagher’s design was developed over nearly two years and is now available for drivers throughout the state.
Gallagher expressed her deep connection to Louisiana, stating, “I’ve done a lot of art that represents Louisiana and I love my Louisiana home.” Her design captures the vibrant and diverse creative landscape of the state, incorporating elements that symbolize visual arts, literature, and music. For instance, the imagery features a paintbrush for visual arts and books to represent literature, showcasing the rich artistic heritage of Louisiana.
Each purchase of the specialty plate benefits the Louisiana Partnership for the Arts, supporting various statewide initiatives aimed at fostering creativity and culture. This license plate, which is valid for life and can easily be transferred between vehicles, serves as both a practical accessory and a meaningful contribution to the arts community.
Gallagher noted that this project provided her with a unique opportunity to leave a mark that will be recognized by many. “If I see ya, I’ll honk and wave!” she added with enthusiasm.
