WUSB-FM, the largest non-commercial, free-form radio station on Long Island, is concluding its annual Radiothon in conjunction with Giving Tuesday on December 3, urging the Stony Brook University community to show their support.

Operating for 47 years, WUSB broadcasts on 90.1 FM and 107.3 FM. However, the station is currently facing a budget shortfall that requires financial assistance to continue broadcasting. Donations of any size are invited, as these contributions solely cover operational costs and do not go towards salaries.

Contributors can make a pledge online or by contacting the station directly at (631) 632-6828 or (631) 632-6901. WUSB is equipped to provide invoices or accept credit card donations. For those showing their support with donations of $75 or $50, hoodies and T-shirts will be offered as tokens of appreciation.

Listeners tuning into WUSB can enjoy a diverse array of programming that includes interviews, news, commentary, various music genres, and live performances, showcasing everything from jazz and pop to punk, metal, electronic, and folk music. Additionally, the station plays a vital role in community engagement, broadcasting thousands of public service announcements that inform listeners about local resources, events, weather updates, and charitable initiatives.

Funding for WUSB comes from listener donations, support from Stony Brook University, the Undergraduate Student Government, the Graduate Student Organization, local business underwriting, and various grants.

This initiative not only supports a beloved community resource but also contributes to the vibrant tapestry of local culture. It presents a poignant opportunity for individuals to make a tangible impact on the survival of a unique platform promoting diverse voices and important local information.

Supporting WUSB-FM is a chance to champion local media and ensure its place in the community for many more years to come.
