David Corenswet, the lead actor in the upcoming reboot of Superman, shared his excitement and gratitude during the London premiere on July 2. The 31-year-old performer spoke with PEOPLE about the meaningful connections he made with former Supermen, Tyler Hoechlin and Henry Cavill. He revealed that both actors took the time to encourage him through letters, which offered a boost of confidence as he prepares to step into a role filled with legacy and significance.

Corenswet mentioned that while Hoechlin, known for his portrayal in the CW series “Superman & Lois,” and Cavill, who starred in five major films as the iconic hero, refrained from offering direct advice, their support was invaluable. “There’s not much advice that we can give, you know? You sort of have to do your own thing,” he expressed, highlighting the personal journey every actor takes with the character.

Additionally, Will Reeve, son of the beloved late actor Christopher Reeve, who immortalized Superman on film starting in 1978, played a crucial role in Corenswet’s preparation. Although Will Reeve humbly noted that he wouldn’t approve or disapprove of Corenswet’s performance, his enthusiasm on set served as an encouraging sign for the new Superman.

The film, which features a talented cast including Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced, is set to hit theaters on July 11. With confidence from previous Supermen and support from family legacies, Corenswet appears poised to embrace this monumental role.

This artistic transition not only honors the past but also embraces a new chapter for the Superman legacy, providing fans with hope for a fresh portrayal of the iconic character that resonates with audiences today.
