David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn, and Gregory A. Hall from the law firm McCarter & English have recently filed their appearances on behalf of Sunrun Installation Services in an ongoing civil rights lawsuit. This legal matter was initiated on September 4 in the Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke, who represents former employee George Edward Steins.
Steins has alleged that he faced legal repercussions due to Sunrun’s failure to inform the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection about the cessation of his employment in 2017, as well as the expiration of his home improvement contractor license. Consequently, he was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. However, those charges were subsequently dismissed in May 2024.
The case is currently assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer and is designated as case number 3:24-cv-01423, titled Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.
This ongoing legal situation highlights the importance of proper communication from employers regarding employee status and credentials. It serves as a reminder for businesses to maintain transparent practices and ensure compliance with state regulations to minimize potential legal disputes.
In a world where such legal disputes can have profound effects on individuals, there remains hope that constructive resolutions can be found, allowing for fair outcomes for all parties involved, and potentially prompting companies to adopt more robust practices in employee management.
