Attorneys David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn, and Gregory A. Hall from McCarter & English are representing Sunrun Installation Services in an ongoing civil rights lawsuit. The case, initiated by attorney Robert M. Berke on September 4th in the Connecticut District Court, is brought forth by former employee George Edward Steins. Steins was arrested and charged with using an unregistered home improvement salesperson.

The lawsuit claims that Sunrun neglected to inform the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection about Steins’ employment termination in 2017 and his subsequent loss of the home improvement contractor license. As a result of this oversight, Steins faced charges that were ultimately dismissed in May 2024. This case is currently under the purview of U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer and is listed as case number 3:24-cv-01423, Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.

In a broader context, this case highlights the important responsibility companies have in managing their employee records and communicating with regulatory bodies. Transparency in such matters can protect businesses and employees from potential legal disputes, fostering a more compliant and responsible workplace environment.

The situation serves as a reminder of the complexities of employment law and the critical need for all parties to stay informed of their rights and obligations. Moving forward, there’s hope that similar cases will lead to clearer guidelines and more robust practices within firms to prevent such issues from occurring in the future.
