David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn, and Gregory A. Hall of McCarter & English have officially entered appearances for Sunrun Installation Services in a notable civil rights lawsuit. The case was initiated on September 4 in the Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke, representing former employee George Edward Steins.
Steins was previously arrested and charged with hiring an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The lawsuit contends that if Sunrun had promptly notified the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that Steins’ employment had concluded in 2017 and that he no longer possessed Sunrun’s home improvement contractor license, he likely would not have faced the charges— which were ultimately dismissed in May 2024.
This case is currently under the jurisdiction of U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer and is identified as case number 3:24-cv-01423, titled Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.
This situation highlights the complexities of employment and licensing laws within the home improvement industry and the responsibilities companies have regarding their employees’ legal standings. It serves as a reminder for businesses to keep accurate records and maintain transparent communication with regulatory bodies to protect their employees from potential legal repercussions.
In the midst of this challenging circumstance, there remains hope for a fair resolution that upholds the rights of former employees while also allowing Sunrun to clarify its position and responsibilities.
