Sunny Hostin, co-host of “The View,” is facing a challenging situation as her husband, Emmanuel Hostin, has been implicated in a significant federal insurance fraud lawsuit. Reports indicate that Emanuel, an orthopedic surgeon, is among 200 defendants in one of New York’s largest RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) cases.
The lawsuit alleges that Emmanuel participated in fraudulent activities, specifically by performing unnecessary surgeries and receiving kickbacks through billing practices linked to a company insuring taxi and rideshare drivers. The document states that he provided supposedly deceptive medical services, which included arthroscopic surgeries, and engaged in financial maneuvers that disguised kickbacks as dividends.
In response to these serious allegations, Emmanuel’s attorney, Daniel John Thwaites, firmly declared that his client denies all accusations and labeled the lawsuit as baseless. Thwaites emphasized that the lawsuit is an attempt by a “near-bankrupt insurance carrier” to exert pressure on medical practitioners to discourage them from seeking payment for services rendered. He noted that Emmanuel boasts an unblemished professional record and criticized American Transit for hastily launching the lawsuit without properly investigating the doctor’s practices.
The insurance company, American Transit, is demanding at least $450 million in damages, stating that fraud involving no-fault insurance is a major concern in New York. An attorney representing the company affirmed that filing the lawsuit was a necessary step in their efforts to combat such fraudulent practices.
