The legal dispute surrounding the estate of the late businessman Sunjay Kapur has intensified as his children, Kiaan Raj Kapoor and Samara Kapoor, challenge the validity of their father’s will in the Delhi High Court. With senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani representing them, the two siblings have alleged that their stepmother, Priya Sachdev, engaged in dubious practices concerning the will, which they assert contains numerous inaccuracies.
The children contend that the will features incorrect spellings of their names and erroneous address details, which Jethmalani argues are critical mistakes for someone who purportedly had a close relationship with his children. According to Jethmalani, “It is unlikely that Sunjay Kapur would have made such mistakes regarding the names and addresses of his own children. This raises serious doubts about the authenticity of the will.”
Additionally, Kiaan and Samara claim that the will disproportionately benefits Priya Sachdev to the exclusion of all other potential beneficiaries of Sunjay’s estate. Jethmalani noted that if the will is found to be fraudulent, Priya would have been the party with the motive to fabricate such a document. The court proceedings are scheduled to resume on Tuesday.
Tensions surrounding the inheritance were evident earlier when, on October 9, Kiaan and Samara likened their stepmother to “Cinderella’s evil stepmother,” expressing their feelings of being unjustly treated in the inheritance process.
The legal maneuvers follow a court ruling from September 26, which permitted Priya Sachdev to file a sealed inventory of Sunjay Kapur’s assets, ensuring that sensitive information regarding the estate remains protected from public disclosure.
Sunjay Kapur, who passed away in June 2025 in London from a suspected heart attack, left behind a complicated legacy that is now facing scrutiny. He shares two children, Samara and Kiaan, with his former wife, actress Karisma Kapoor, and he was married to Priya Sachdev in 2017.
This case has captured public attention not only due to the prominent figures involved but also because of its potential implications for family inheritance laws. As the legal proceedings develop, there remains hope for clarity and fairness, with all parties seeking resolution and equity in what can often be a lengthy and complicated process of estate disputes.
