CINCINNATI – The Tri-State area is gearing up for a wet and breezy Sunday as heavy rainfall and high winds sweep across the region, prompting a First Alert Weather Day.
The FOX19 NOW Weather Team has issued a wind advisory for the Tri-State, effective from 3 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Sunday. Residents can expect sustained winds ranging from 15 to 25 mph, with isolated gusts potentially reaching 40 to 50 mph.
As the weather front moves in, parts of the Tri-State are currently under a marginal risk for severe weather—rated one out of five—late Saturday night into Sunday morning. This is primarily due to the combination of strong gusts and heavy rain.
Thunderstorms are anticipated to disrupt outdoor activities throughout the day. The rain is expected to begin west of Cincinnati around midnight and will progress into the Greater Cincinnati Area between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. The heaviest rainfall is forecasted for the morning hours when wind gusts are predicted to peak at 35 to 40 mph, combined with sustained winds of 15 mph.
In addition to the morning deluge, the weather team warns of the possibility of scattered showers and storms throughout the afternoon and evening. Some of these thunderstorms may become severe.
Temperatures will be notably cooler on Sunday, with highs carrying into Monday morning remaining in the 40s before rising into the low to mid 60s under clear skies.
The main hazards for the day include gusty winds, slick road conditions, and a minor flood risk, making it advisable for residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions.
The anticipated weather timeline begins with rain and storms starting west of Cincinnati from midnight to 2 a.m., followed by the heaviest rainfall affecting the Greater Cincinnati Area between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. Rain is expected to migrate east by 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., with scattered showers continuing into the afternoon. By 6 p.m., it is expected that rain and storms will have cleared out of the Greater Cincinnati region.
