Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever with 21 points, while Aliyah Boston added 17 points and 11 rebounds. Caitlin Clark, however, struggled throughout the game, contributing only 11 points on a difficult shooting night, including 4-of-17 from the field and 2-of-13 from three-point range. Although the Fever managed to score 20 points in the first quarter, they faced tighter defense from the Sun in the following periods. Indiana ended the game with a shooting percentage of 40.3% and was just 21.4% from beyond the arc.
In one notable moment, Caitlin Clark was poked in the eye by DiJonai Carrington early in the game but continued to play without missing any time. Despite her difficulties shooting, she provided 8 assists, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 turnovers.
The Fever faced challenges throughout the game, including an early injury to Tyasha Harris of the Sun, who left the game after falling awkwardly.
Game 2 of the best-of-three series is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday, with a potential Game 3 scheduled for Friday in Indianapolis if necessary.
