Summerfest, recognized as one of the oldest and largest music festivals in the United States, returns to Milwaukee for its 57th year. This year’s opening day proudly aligns with Juneteenth Day, featuring a variety of special acts and events in celebration of this historic occasion.
Highlighting the festival’s first day on June 19 will be a headline performance by the iconic rock band Def Leppard, alongside Tesla, at the American Family Insurance Amphitheater. Other performances throughout the day will include genres from comedy to blues and everything in between, with a robust schedule packed with entertainment options.
The festival kicks off with a range of activities starting at noon, featuring performances from various bands and artists, such as Joy Oladokun and Ginuwine, along with interactive experiences like Pickleball sessions. A dedicated ceremony at Maier Festival Park will further honor Juneteenth, incorporating live performances and speeches that recognize scholarship recipients.
Special acts have been curated to commemorate Juneteenth, including performances by the Isley Brothers, the talented Eric Benét, and the local blues talent Buffalo Nichols.
