Sukuna Bowl: Army Women Triumph in Touch Rugby Clash with Police

The Army Women’s touch rugby team celebrated a decisive 9-5 victory over the Police during the Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl match held at the Nasova grounds on the morning of November 10, 2024. From the outset, the Army side demonstrated their readiness and strength, quickly applying pressure to the Police team and capitalizing on early mistakes made by their opponents.

The Army’s organized attacking play and quick defensive coordination allowed them to gain momentum in the opening phases of the match. Despite the Police’s efforts to stay competitive, they struggled to match the pace and structure that the Army displayed on the field. Whenever the hosts attempted to narrow the gap in score, the Army remained composed, converting crucial opportunities that arose during pivotal moments.

Discipline became a defining factor in the match, as the Army’s control of possession and strategic decision-making in challenging situations enabled them to maintain their lead as the game progressed. The win not only boosts morale for the Army, setting a strong tone for their ongoing participation in the Sukuna Bowl programme, but also reflects the continuing development of women’s sports within the region.

Following their triumph in touch rugby, several Army team members are set to compete in netball and volleyball events scheduled for the following day. Meanwhile, boxing activities continue into the second day at the Nasova Academy, promising more excitement from the competition.

This victory reinforces the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie among the teams involved, showcasing the growing strength of women’s sports in Fiji and inspiring future generations of athletes.
