Sukuna Bowl 2024: Fiji Police and RFMF Unite Against Drugs and HIV

The upcoming Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl, featuring the Fiji Police Force and the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), promises to extend beyond mere competitive sports this year. The Forces are uniting under the banner, “United For Victory – Stronger Together Against Drugs and HIV,” which underscores their commitment to tackling pressing social issues within the country.

Colonel Viliame Draunibaka, speaking on behalf of the RFMF Commander at the Sukuna Bowl launch held in Nasova, emphasized the shared mission of both Forces in addressing the challenges posed by drugs and HIV. “It’s an important time to be united in this common fight,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Aporosa Lutunauga, highlighting that the absence of Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu should not be misconstrued as a sign of fear but rather a united front.

This year’s event will feature a total of 15 sporting disciplines, with the highlight rugby and soccer matches being held at Subrail Park in Labasa on November 20th and 21st, marking a new venue for this traditional rivalry. The competition has garnered significant attention, especially following last year’s draw between the Police and RFMF, which concluded 11-11 at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.

In previous announcements about the Ratu Sukuna Bowl, Major General Jone Kalouniwai also expressed that the event aims to build a drug-free nation through family unity and reconciliation, showcasing the disciplined forces of Fiji competing for more than just a trophy. Amidst rising social challenges, the RFMF and Police stand ready to bolster community health and safety.

Vodafone Fiji’s Chief Commercial Officer, Salman Khan, has noted that the passionate Fijian public’s love for rugby is instrumental in the spirit of this event. He encouraged players to partake in the competition with integrity and to honor the legacy of past champions while keeping future aspirations in mind.

With anticipation building for this year’s Sukuna Bowl, both the Fiji Police Force and RFMF are set not only to compete but to reinforce their commitment to social responsibility, fostering hope for a stronger and healthier Fiji.
