Suffolk County has released its COVID-19 statistics for August 12, 2024, highlighting key metrics in line with CDC guidelines.

As of that date, there were 94 individuals hospitalized, with 62% admitted due to COVID-19 or complications related to the virus. New admissions counted 29 since the last update, while 31 patients were discharged. Currently, 8 patients remain in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). It is important to note that hospitals have ceased data reporting to the New York State Department of Health on weekends and holidays.

In terms of fatalities, the county has recorded a total of 5,323 deaths since March 2020, with an increase of 1 since the last report. The annual breakdown of fatalities is as follows: 2020 saw 2,311 deaths, 2021 had 1,507, 2022 recorded 1,015, 2023 experienced 318, and 2024 has counted 177 so far.

The COVID-19 case tracker as of August 10, 2024, reported 131 new cases, marking a rate of 8.6 cases per 100,000 and an average of 13.8 cases over the previous week, which includes both PCR and antigen test results.

For vaccination information, the department provides COVID vaccines to uninsured and underinsured populations through New York State’s Vaccines for Children and Adults programs. Those with insurance are advised to receive their vaccines through local pharmacies, health care providers, or federally qualified health centers.

Testing options continue to be available, and wastewater surveillance remains a component of ongoing monitoring efforts for the virus.
