Jason Sudeikis recently paid heartfelt tribute to his late uncle, George Wendt, during the Big Slick Celebrity Weekend fundraiser for Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Wendt, beloved for his role as Norm Peterson on the iconic TV show “Cheers,” passed away on May 19 at the age of 76.

Sudeikis, a four-time Emmy winner for “Ted Lasso,” reflected on his uncle’s warmth and kindness, stating, “He’s as fun and kind and as warm as any character he played on television or in films.” He noted that unlike many heroes who can disappoint, Wendt was a true inspiration.

Describing Wendt’s profound influence on his life and career, Sudeikis shared that Wendt demonstrated that acting could be a viable profession, especially for someone from the Midwest. “He also always kept connected to his family, to his roots,” Sudeikis said, recalling Wendt’s time at Rockhurst University and how it shaped his later success.

Paul Rudd, another notable figure in attendance, echoed Sudeikis’ sentiments, highlighting the deep void Wendt’s passing has left among his peers, calling him “a really really sweet guy.”

This tribute not only honors Wendt’s legacy but also highlights the importance of familial bonds and mentorship in the entertainment industry. Sudeikis’ words serve as a reminder that the connections we keep can greatly impact our paths in life and career.
