VfB Stuttgart’s coach Sebastian Hoeneß remains cautious regarding the potential inclusion of Dan-Axel Zagadou in the upcoming match against Borussia Dortmund. While Hoeneß noted that Zagadou made a strong first impression during training sessions, he emphasized the need to evaluate player fitness carefully, particularly after the international break.
In light of his past challenges with injuries, including five significant knee injuries, Zagadou has been proactive in maintaining his fitness level during his recent time off in Paris. Hoeneß acknowledged the defender’s progress but remains vigilant, remembering Zagadou’s early exit in the match against Mainz due to adductor overstrain after 70 minutes of play.
The 1.96-meter tall defender showcased notable improvement during his last match, having completed the full 90 minutes against Augsburg, which Hoeneß viewed positively. The coach stated, “Daxo has taken a good step forward; he performed well both in aerial challenges and on the ground.” However, given Zagadou’s physical stature and previous ailments, the coach insists on keeping a close eye on him to manage his playing time responsibly.
In comparison to Zagadou, Hoeneß also praised teammate Jeff Chabot, who has effectively defended against former Stuttgart player Serhou Guirassy. “Both players are aerially dominant and bring significant physicality to the pitch. We are glad to have both fit and at our disposal,” Hoeneß stated, hinting at the possibility of fielding both Zagadou and Chabot in the game.
Zagadou himself is eager to face his former team, expressing excitement about reuniting with friends, including Guirassy and Waldemar Anton. “We will do everything to prepare for this match since it is a fantastic team, and we will strive to return with a victory,” Zagadou affirmed, highlighting the team’s determination.
Overall, Stuttgart is approaching this crucial match with hope, as players seem to be on the mend and motivated to achieve positive results against a formidable opponent.
