Florida State’s difficult start to the season continued on Monday as the No. 10 Seminoles suffered another defeat, losing 28-13 at home to Boston College. This follows their earlier loss to Georgia Tech in the season opener, leaving the team struggling to regain momentum.
After finishing the previous season with an undefeated record and narrowly missing the College Football Playoff, Florida State’s aspirations for a championship this year appear dim. Quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, who joined the Seminoles from Oregon State, had a challenging game. Despite throwing for 272 yards and a touchdown, he struggled to take advantage of opportunities in the red zone and threw an interception in the third quarter, contributing to Boston College’s 21-6 lead. His overall passing was also inconsistent, completing just 21 of 42 attempts.
The defense was equally underwhelming, allowing 263 rushing yards to the Eagles. Following the disappointing season start, fans expressed frustration toward head coach Mike Norvell and Uiagalelei on social media.
Florida State, which previously sought legal action against the ACC in hopes of joining a more competitive conference like the SEC or Big Ten, now faces the consequences of two consecutive losses to ACC opponents. With an 0-2 record, the Seminoles will use their bye week to search for solutions to reverse their poor start. However, their next challenge on September 14 against Memphis, a strong Group of Five program, is unlikely to be an easy task.
