Matt Duffer, co-creator of “Stranger Things,” has decisively put an end to the speculation surrounding Joseph Quinn’s return for Season 5, stating that his character, Eddie Munson, is “fully under that ground” and remains deceased. In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, Duffer clarified the situation amidst fans’ hopes for Quinn’s reappearance, particularly following his character’s dramatic demise in the Season 4 finale.
Duffer expressed amusement at Quinn jokingly misleading fans but firmly confirmed that Eddie’s story has come to a close. He emphasized that Quinn’s involvement in other projects made it clear he wouldn’t be reprising his role. “Joe is so busy anyway, that everyone should know he’s not coming back,” Duffer commented, highlighting that the actor has been occupied with several film projects since wrapping up on “Stranger Things.”
Since his departure from the hit series, Quinn has taken on roles in several major films, including “A Quiet Place: Day One,” “Gladiator II,” “Warfare,” and “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.” Additionally, he has been cast to play George Harrison in an upcoming Beatles biopic, alongside notable actors Harris Dickinson, Paul Mescal, and Barry Keoghan.
Fans, however, have continued to express their desire for a possible cameo from Quinn, reminiscent of Dacre Montgomery’s guest appearance in Season 4 after his character Billy had already been killed off. Following the Season 4 finale, Quinn had teased the possibility of a return by stating he would “be very up for” a guest role, which only fanned the flames of speculation.
“Stranger Things” Season 5 is highly anticipated, with Vol. 1 set to premiere on November 26, followed by Vol. 2 on December 25, and the series finale scheduled for December 31. With all previous seasons currently available for streaming on Netflix, fans are eager to see how the beloved series wraps up, despite the absence of fan-favorite character Eddie Munson.
