The National Weather Service in Tucson has issued warnings of thunderstorms and potential flash flooding for Wednesday and Thursday, before conditions are expected to clear up in time for Independence Day celebrations. A flash flood watch is effective from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Wednesday, particularly affecting parts of Southeast Arizona.
In addition to the flood watch, a blowing dust advisory is also in place for the Tucson metro area and the southern parts of Pinal County from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
Temperatures will be quite warm, with highs around 99 degrees on Wednesday accompanied by a 50% chance of rain. Thursday is expected to be slightly cooler at 94 degrees, with a 60% chance of precipitation.
Forecaster Dalton Van Statten noted that while there is a potential for flash flooding, conditions will begin to improve by Thursday and Friday. The likelihood of thunderstorms will decrease to between 15% to 30% from Friday through Sunday, with storms expected primarily south of Tucson. The forecast indicates highs of 97 degrees on Friday, 100 degrees on Saturday, and reaching up to 104 degrees on Sunday.
As residents prepare for the Fourth of July, it’s encouraging to see the weather stabilizing just in time for outdoor festivities. This shift could bring a sense of relief for those planning celebrations, as well as a reminder to stay safe and informed during the stormy weather leading up to the holiday.
