Stormy Skies and Record Crowds: Barcelona Gears Up for Clásico Challenge!

Barcelona is bracing for potential challenges this Sunday as a storm is expected to coincide with the highly anticipated Clásico match at Montjuïc, alongside the ongoing Barcelona International Motor Show, which began on Saturday and runs until May 18. The forecast suggests heavy downpours that could complicate access to the stadium while a significant number of fans might be looking to attend the game, potentially breaking the attendance record of 50,314 set during the Champions League semi-finals against Inter Milan on April 30.

In preparation for these conditions, efforts are being made to mitigate access issues for fans. Heavy rainfall could affect the operation of escalators, prompting the deployment of maintenance personnel ahead of time to address any malfunctions.

Additionally, due to the Motor Show restricting access along Avenida Maria Cristina, shuttle buses will be rerouted. Fans can now board these special shuttles from Fira 2 parking, adjacent to the Fira Barcelona Gran Vía pavilions, as well as from Avenida Francesc Ferrer i Guàrdia near the CaixaForum.

The Barcelona City Council has provided guidelines for fans to avoid chaos, encouraging walking to the venue whenever possible and suggesting the use of motorcycles, although rain could make that less feasible. Notably, the funicular service will increase its frequency two hours before the match, and regular city buses will be available alongside special shuttles, which will run every three to four minutes to maximize transport options.

As is customary, fans are advised to arrive several hours in advance to ease congestion and enhance their access to the stadium. The match time at 16:15 attracts many families, increasing the need for accessible facilities, particularly for those with young children.

This proactive approach reflects an awareness of the possible challenges posed by inclement weather and events in the city, allowing fans to enjoy the game while keeping safety considerations in mind.
