The Meteorological department has issued a warning regarding potential lightning strikes, urging residents to seek shelter during anticipated thunderstorm activity. The forecast predicts light thunderstorms along with light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds, reaching speeds of 30-40 km/h. Areas of concern include parts of Bankura, Hooghly, Howrah, Jhargram, Kolkata, West Midnapore, and Purulia over the next few hours.

Recent weather data shows that Alipore recorded approximately 12mm of rain between Tuesday and Wednesday. This pattern of consistent rainfall has helped lower temperatures in the region, making it feel cooler than typical for this time of year.

Looking ahead, officials note that the region can expect more rainy days, with a decrease in rainfall intensity forecasted between Friday and Sunday. However, a fresh weather system is expected to develop by next Monday, which may lead to increased rainfall once again. Heavy rainfall, estimated between 7-11cm, is anticipated in East Burdwan, East Midnapore, Birbhum, and South 24-Parganas.

The upcoming week’s weather forecast suggests a mix of rain and fluctuating temperatures. June 20 is set to bring moderate rain with temperatures ranging from 25.7°C to 33.5°C. Following this, June 21 will see patchy rain and a slight temperature drop. The midweek period will likely have reduced rainfall but will maintain high humidity levels; June 22 and 23 are expected to show patchy rains and temperatures reaching up to 35.8°C.

On June 23, conditions may become more favorable for outdoor activities, with lower chances of rain and more manageable temperatures, providing an opportunity for residents to enjoy the outdoors. This current weather pattern marks a notable shift from Kolkata’s usual June climate, leaving room for both caution and optimism as the weather gradually stabilizes.
