After a period of heavy rainfall and several Flash Flood Emergencies, rain is expected to subside by sunrise on Wednesday, with Flood Alerts concluding at 6 AM. However, Wednesday afternoon and into the evening, the region may experience strong thunderstorms, primarily posing a threat of damaging winds. A STORM ALERT is set to commence at 3 PM and will remain active until 10 PM.

Despite the easing of rain, there remains a risk of additional flooding and potential downed trees as rivers and streams are projected to continue rising through Thursday. Residents are urged to stay alert to the changing weather conditions.

On Wednesday morning, the atmosphere will remain very humid, with lingering showers and temperatures hovering in the 60s. Some areas might glimpse the sun as temperatures rise into the 70s later in the day. The Storm Prediction Center has categorized the DMV area within a Level 1 out of 5 risk for storms capable of producing damaging winds, prompting the First Alert Weather team to issue alerts for the afternoon and evening.

Looking ahead, Thursday is forecasted to be somewhat drier, with temperatures reaching around 80 degrees and a lower chance of rain. Though the likelihood of thunderstorms diminishes, any storms that arise could still bring heavy rainfall.

It’s important for the community to stay informed about the weather conditions as they evolve, taking precautions against the possibility of storms and flooding. The use of weather apps can help residents remain up to date with the latest forecasts and alerts.
