Stop & Shop, the century-old supermarket chain with around 350 locations in the Mid-Atlantic region, will close 32 stores in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, and New Jersey this fall.
New Jersey will see the most closures, with ten stores shutting down.
Is your local Stop & Shop closing? Here are the details.
Reasons for Closing
Stop & Shop President Gordon Reid explained the closures are due to underperformance.
“Stop & Shop is proud of the deep roots and community ties we have developed as a neighborhood grocer of more than 100 years, and we remain committed to nourishing our associates, customers, and communities,” Reid said in a press release. “As we announced in May, Stop & Shop has evaluated its overall store portfolio and made the difficult decision to close underperforming stores to create a healthy base for the future growth of our brand.”
Closure Dates
The 32 stores are set to close by Saturday, Nov. 2.
“Stop & Shop will communicate specific store closing dates to local customers well in advance of any store closures,” the release stated. “Stop & Shop remains committed to serving its communities through other store locations, online shopping, and home delivery services.”
