On this Giving Tuesday, the South Carolina Stingrays express their heartfelt gratitude to their fans while highlighting the significant positive influence they have had within the community.
At the start of the season, the Stingrays initiated a Hurricane Helene Relief Drive, a critical effort aimed at supporting those impacted by the devastating storm that struck Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, and parts of South Carolina. With the generous contributions from fans, the team managed to fill a whole box truck with essential goods such as water, baby supplies, and pet care products. These donations were transported to Asheville, North Carolina, through the efforts of Palmetto Paint Specialties Inc., providing much-needed assistance to affected families.
In just a short span since their season kickoff, the Stingrays have dedicated more than 140 volunteer hours to various community initiatives. Their involvement has ranged from participating in the Reading Buddies program in local schools to facilitating youth hockey practices at the Carolina Ice Palace during travel breaks.
Even while the players travel for games, their spirited mascot, Cool Ray, makes his presence known by attending over 20 local events in recent months. Notable appearances included the City of North Charleston’s Night Out and Fish or Treat at the South Carolina Aquarium, bringing smiles to many faces.
A highlight of their community engagement was the Stingrays Community Night organized in collaboration with the North Charleston Community Resource Center. Players Micah Miller, Kyler Kupka, and Reilly Webb engaged kids in a lively street hockey game and distributed fun items like T-shirts, water bottles, autographed photos, and more, while service partners treated families to complimentary ice cream.
In a recent addition, the Stingrays hosted a free NHL Street Hockey Clinic that attracted over 20 young hockey enthusiasts. The clinic featured Stingrays President Rob Concannon, Charleston Youth Hockey Coach Ryan Blair, and current Assistant Coach Mike Hamilton, who guided the participants through a two-hour hockey session. To further surprise the kids, Stingrays players Jacob Graves, Tyler Weiss, and Jordan Klimek provided signed jerseys and sticks at the end of the event.
Emphasizing their dedication to local charities, the Stingrays lead the “Assist of the Game” initiative during home games, where owner Todd Halloran donates $1,993 to local nonprofits at each match. Throughout the season, they have been privileged to support various organizations and are looking forward to continuing this impactful program during upcoming events like the Teddy Bear Toss and Undie Sunday games.
This holiday season, the Stingrays have joined forces with Blanton and Sons to bring extra joy to families in need by providing Christmas trees. This initiative aims to ensure that these families have a festive centerpiece for their holiday celebrations, embodying the spirit of giving that resonates deeply with the team’s values.
The Stingrays commend their fans for the essential role they play in this community outreach and express their excitement for the future. Together, they are forging a brighter path for their neighbors, demonstrating that even small acts of kindness can create ripple effects of positivity.
The South Carolina Stingrays extend their sincerest thanks for the continued support from the community and look forward to sharing more joyous moments ahead.
