Stevie Nicks, a legendary figure in music, shows no signs of slowing down in her impressive career.
Having joined Fleetwood Mac nearly 50 years ago, the band’s music continues to resonate with audiences. Nicks’ unmistakable sultry vocals have contributed to classics like “Dreams,” “Landslide,” and “Edge of Seventeen.” Today, she continues to captivate audiences with her powerful performances.
On October 12, Nicks will be a musical guest on Season 50 of Saturday Night Live, with Ariana Grande hosting the episode. This will mark Nicks’ first appearance on the show since 1983, where she performed “Stand Back” and “Night Bird” from her debut solo album, The Wild Heart.
At 76, Nicks is still creating impactful music. Her recent single, “The Lighthouse,” responds to the overturning of Roe v. Wade and has quickly reached the top of Billboard charts. In a statement from September 2024, Nicks expressed the importance of the song, saying, “This may be the most important thing I ever do, to stand up for the women of the United States and their daughters and granddaughters — and the men that love them. This is an anthem.”
Nicks’ music journey spans several decades, beginning in her 20s. She gained early recognition with Lindsey Buckingham, with whom she would later form a duet following their shared experience in the band Fritz. Their collaboration resulted in the album Buckingham Nicks, which caught the attention of Fleetwood Mac.
When Fleetwood Mac sought new members in 1974, Buckingham was invited to join as a guitarist, but insisted that Nicks be included as well. Their addition helped the band achieve significant success, especially with the 1975 self-titled album and the Grammy-winning Rumours in 1977.
As she continued with Fleetwood Mac, Nicks also pursued a solo career, debuting with Bella Donna in 1981. The album features the popular track “Edge of Seventeen,” and Nicks has often reflected on her vision of creating a distinct sound that differed from Fleetwood Mac.
Throughout her career, Nicks has released eight solo albums and collaborated with various artists, including the late Tom Petty. Their friendship led to memorable musical moments, with Petty praising her as a good friend since 1978.
Currently, Nicks is busy with her Live in Concert tour and has plans to tour in 2025 with Billy Joel and Sting. As she prepares to return to the SNL stage, she shared her excitement about the performance, stating it feels like an even bigger opportunity than performing at a stadium show, emphasizing the global reach of live television.
