Stevie Nicks: The Timeless Icon Returns to SNL After 40 Years!

Stevie Nicks’ music career is legendary, and there’s no sign of her slowing down.

Almost 50 years have passed since Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac, and the band’s music continues to resonate with fans. Her notable tracks, including “Dreams,” “Landslide,” and “Edge of Seventeen” from her solo debut, showcase her distinctive voice, which remains powerful in her current performances.

Nicks is set to appear as the Musical Guest on Saturday Night Live’s Season 50 on October 12, with Ariana Grande hosting. Her last performance on the iconic show was in 1983, where she sang “Stand Back” and “Night Bird” from her solo album, The Wild Heart.

At 76, Nicks is still producing impactful music. Her recent single “The Lighthouse,” inspired by the overturn of Roe v. Wade, quickly ascended the Billboard charts. Nicks expressed her intention behind the song in a statement, highlighting its significance as an anthem for women in the U.S. and their supporters.

Nicks’ career is a fascinating journey, beginning as a young artist, and reflects on her musical partnership with Lindsey Buckingham and her unique style from the ’70s and ’80s.

Before her success with Fleetwood Mac, Nicks and her then-boyfriend, Buckingham, were part of a band called Fritz. They later recorded an album, Buckingham Nicks, which gained attention from Mick Fleetwood, leading to their eventual membership in Fleetwood Mac in 1974.

Initially, it was Buckingham who was invited to join the band, but he insisted that Nicks join as well. The band enjoyed immense success with their self-titled album in 1975, followed by the Grammy-winning Rumours in 1977.

Nicks has enjoyed a prolific career within the band and as a solo artist. Her debut solo album, Bella Donna, released in 1981, included the highly popular “Edge of Seventeen.” Reflecting on its 40th anniversary, she shared that she aimed for a distinctly different sound from Fleetwood Mac, working only with female backing vocalists.

Over the years, Nicks has released eight solo albums and worked with various artists, including the late Tom Petty, who regarded her as a close friend.

Currently, Nicks is touring across the U.S. for her Live in Concert series and has plans to hit the road with Billy Joel and Sting in 2025. She is also looking forward to her return to SNL on October 12, recognizing the global reach of the show, which brings an added layer of excitement and nerves to her performance.
