Stevie Nicks’ remarkable music career continues to thrive as she approaches her 50th year in the industry. Known for her iconic voice, Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac nearly five decades ago, and the band’s music remains timeless, with hits like “Dreams,” “Landslide,” and “Edge of Seventeen” from her solo work still resonating with audiences.
On October 12, Nicks will take the stage as a Musical Guest on the 50th season of Saturday Night Live, with Ariana Grande hosting the episode. Her previous appearance on the show was in 1983, where she performed “Stand Back” and “Night Bird.”
At 76, Nicks is still an active force in the music world, recently releasing her single “The Lighthouse,” which is a poignant response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade and has quickly soared to the top of Billboard charts. Nicks described the song as an anthem for women and a vital stand for their rights, expressing her commitment to support them and their families.
Nicks’ illustrious career began as a young artist, and her collaboration with Lindsey Buckingham in the band Fritz set the stage for their future success. Their relationship transitioned from romance to a musical collaboration, ultimately leading them to join Fleetwood Mac in 1974. Nicks and Buckingham’s chemistry helped propel the band to fame with their self-titled album in 1975 and the Grammy-winning “Rumours” in 1977.
Simultaneously, Nicks embarked on a successful solo career, releasing her debut album, “Bella Donna,” in 1981, which featured fan-favorite “Edge of Seventeen.” Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the album, she reflected on her choice of female backing vocalists to create a distinct sound separate from Fleetwood Mac.
Throughout her career, Nicks has released eight solo albums and collaborated with numerous artists, including the late Tom Petty, with whom she shared a long-standing friendship.
As she prepares for her upcoming performance on SNL, Nicks acknowledges the unique significance of the show, stating that it generates excitement and nerves unlike any stadium performance. With her Live in Concert tour ongoing and plans to tour with Billy Joel and Sting in 2025, Nicks shows no signs of slowing down.
