Stevie Nicks Shines in Yet Another SNL Comeback After 40 Years!

Stevie Nicks made a celebrated return to Saturday Night Live as the musical guest on the October 12 episode, hosted by Ariana Grande. This appearance marked over four decades since her debut on the show, which took place in December 1983. During her inaugural SNL performance, Nicks showcased “Stand Back” and “Nightbird” from her second solo album, The Wild Heart, while being hosted by Flip Wilson.

In her latest performance, Nicks opened with her new single, “The Lighthouse.” She captivated the audience in an elegant all-black ensemble, complete with a black velvet jacket and skirt, complemented by sheer black fabric that flowed behind her band.

Nicks’ second performance featured her iconic 1981 song, “Edge of Seventeen.” A brief technical issue delayed this performance, but it was quickly fixed, leading to a portrait of Nicks displayed on screen before several advertisements aired, building anticipation before she began the song to enthusiastic applause from the audience.

Reflecting on her first SNL experience in a recent email interview with PEOPLE, Nicks described the nerves she felt stepping onto the stage as a solo artist, separate from her time with Fleetwood Mac. She recalled a moment of concern when her friend, who was to join her on the second song, experienced severe stage fright. In a pinch, Nicks called on her sister-in-law and longtime backup singer, Lori Perry, to fill in.

Despite the unexpected challenge, Nicks expressed pride in the performance, stating, “It came off beautifully. I’ve never been so proud of anything as I was of that night. It was a magical show, and I was thrilled, and it definitely kicked my solo career up.”

Saturday Night Live airs at 11:30 p.m. EST on weekends on NBC.
