Steelers Strengthen QB Depth with New Addition

The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially added former Cincinnati Bengals backup quarterback Logan Woodside to their roster. The move comes after Woodside was released by the Bengals in July, a decision made when the team opted to sign Desmond Ridder, a former quarterback for the University of Cincinnati.

Logan Woodside, now 29, was initially selected by the Bengals in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft. During his time with Cincinnati, he did not see action in any regular-season games. However, he showcased his skills in the 2024 preseason, passing for 149 yards and one touchdown in the Bengals’ opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This performance accounted for a significant portion of Cincinnati’s passing yards that game, particularly highlighted by a 37-yard touchdown pass to rookie Jermaine Burton.

Overall, Woodside has played in 13 NFL games throughout his career, including 11 games over two seasons with the Tennessee Titans from 2020 to 2021, and two games during the 2022 and 2023 seasons with the Atlanta Falcons. Notably, while Woodside has yet to throw or score a touchdown in a regular-season game, he remains a promising player with potential given his preseason performance.

This signing reflects the Steelers’ strategy to bolster their quarterback depth, and Woodside’s experience, albeit limited, may provide valuable backup support. As he joins the Steelers, fans and the organization alike will be hoping that he can translate his preseason successes into regular-season opportunities.
