The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced a roster addition ahead of Christmas, signing veteran cornerback Tre Flowers to their active roster. This move comes following Flowers’ brief tenure with the Detroit Lions earlier this season, where he played in two games before the team’s Week 8 bye.
At 30 years old, Flowers joined the Lions in October in response to injuries plaguing starting cornerbacks Terrion Arnold and D.J. Reed, who were hurt during a Week 4 victory over the Cleveland Browns. During his time with Detroit, the 6-foot-3, 203-pound cornerback participated in a limited capacity, taking part in 12 defensive snaps and 11 special teams snaps without recording any statistics. He was released by the Lions on December 1.
Over his seven-season career in the NFL, Flowers has demonstrated his skills through a total of 287 tackles, four interceptions, five forced fumbles, and five fumble recoveries across 97 games, with 44 starts.
This signing marks the eighth team in Flowers’ career, which previously included notable stints with the Seattle Seahawks, who drafted him in 2018, as well as the Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons, Jacksonville Jaguars, Indianapolis Colts, and Chicago Bears. As the Steelers seek to strengthen their defensive lineup, Flowers’ extensive experience may prove to be a valuable asset as they navigate the remainder of the season.
