The Pittsburgh Steelers have made key moves to strengthen their roster, acquiring wide receiver Mike Williams from the New York Jets and edge rusher Preston Smith from the Green Bay Packers.

In this transaction, the Steelers are sending a 2025 fifth-round draft pick to the Jets to secure Williams, who has recorded 12 receptions for 166 yards so far this season. A former standout at Clemson, Williams was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers in the seventh overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft, where he accumulated 309 receptions, 4,806 receiving yards, and 31 touchdown catches over his tenure.

In addition, the Steelers will be sending a seventh-round draft pick to the Packers to acquire Smith. At 31 years old, Smith has solidified his reputation as a formidable defender since being drafted in 2015 by the Washington Commanders. During his career, he has played in 146 games, accumulating 411 tackles and 66 sacks, establishing himself as a vital component of any defensive lineup.

The Steelers’ decision to bring in these two veterans reflects a clear strategy to enhance both their offensive and defensive capabilities as they aim for success in the ongoing season. With players like Williams and Smith, the team looks to leverage their experience and skills to better compete in the league.

This optimistic approach not only shows the team’s commitment to improving but also signals their ambition to contend for a playoff spot in the near future.
