Steelers Boost Defense with Veteran Safety Signing

The Pittsburgh Steelers have welcomed a new addition to their safety lineup as they kick off training camp. Veteran safety Chuck Clark has signed with the team, as confirmed on Friday through various beat writers. Clark, previously with the Baltimore Ravens, will don jersey number 21 for Pittsburgh.

In a related move, the Steelers have waived defensive tackle Domenique Davis to make room for Clark on their roster. Known for his extensive experience in the AFC North, Clark was drafted in the sixth round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Ravens and played there until 2022 before joining the New York Jets. Unfortunately, his time with the Jets was marred by a torn ACL that kept him sidelined for the entire 2023 season; however, he managed to start 12 games in 2024 and recorded 69 total tackles along with two passes defended.

As the Steelers look to refine their defensive strategy, Clark’s role will be of interest. Reports indicate that safety Juan Thornhill has already been taking first and second team reps at free safety during practice, suggesting an evolving rotation that will likely include Clark.

Adding a player with Clark’s experience and skills may bolster Pittsburgh’s defense as they prepare for the upcoming season. His presence could create a competitive atmosphere in the safety room and improve overall team performance.
