Starz has officially announced the cancellation of its drama series BMF after four seasons. This decision comes just two and a half months after the conclusion of the show’s fourth season in mid-August. Developed by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s G-Unit Film and Television alongside Lionsgate TV, BMF explored the rise of brothers Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory and Terry Flenory, who became influential figures in Detroit’s Black Mafia Family during the 1980s and ’90s.

The cancellation may not have come as a surprise to some, as Starz president and CEO Jeffrey Hirsch acknowledged season four’s “underperformance” during a quarterly earnings call. He indicated that the show did not meet expectations, leading to a moderate decline in subscribers and revenue from over-the-top (OTT) platforms, although Starz typically keeps its viewing data private.

The cast of BMF featured Demetrius Flenory Jr. and Da’Vinchi portraying the titular brothers, with Flenory also playing his father. Other notable actors included Russell Hornsby, Michole Briana White, Eric Kofi-Abrefa, Myles Truitt, Steve Harris, and La La Anthony. The series was created by Randy Huggins, who served as an executive producer along with season four showrunner Heather Zuhlke, Jackson, Anthony Wilson, and Anne Clements.

With the end of BMF, Starz’s lineup shifts focus to its remaining original series, which include the Power spinoffs Raising Kanan and Force, both nearing their final seasons, alongside Outlander and its prequel Blood of My Blood. Other offerings include P-Valley, co-productions Sweetpea and The Couple Next Door, and new projects like Spartacus: House of Ashur and Power: Origins, a prequel series.

While it’s always disappointing to see a show end, BMF’s legacy as a significant portrayal of an important chapter in American cultural history will likely resonate with audiences and new viewers for years to come. The investment in enriching storytelling continues with an array of upcoming projects in the Starz lineup that promise to deliver engaging content.
