The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is preparing to celebrate its fifth annual fundraising gala, scheduled for October 18, by honoring renowned figures in the film industry, including Bruce Springsteen, Penélope Cruz, Bowen Yang, and Walter Salles.
Bruce Springsteen will be awarded the inaugural Legacy Award for his influential body of work that has inspired many storytellers and left a lasting impact on culture. In a special performance during the event, Springsteen will share his music with attendees. Penélope Cruz will receive the Icon Award, recognizing her significant global influence through her film career.
Bowen Yang is set to receive the Vantage Award, which highlights emerging artists who challenge traditional narratives within the film industry. Walter Salles will be honored with the Luminary Award for expanding the creative horizons of filmmaking through his contributions.
Both Springsteen and Cruz are celebrated Oscar winners, while Yang is part of the cast in the Oscar-winning production of Wicked, with the much-anticipated sequel, Wicked: For Good, making its way to theaters on November 21. The gala will also feature co-chairs from notable figures in the film industry, including Jon M. Chu, Common, Viola Davis, and Robert Downey Jr.
The Academy Museum’s host committee is star-studded, comprising names like Amy Adams, Judd Apatow, Noah Baumbach, and many others, reflecting the deep connections and support from the film community for the museum’s mission.
Amy Homma, the Academy Museum’s director and president, expressed gratitude for the ongoing support and emphasized the importance of the gala in celebrating, advancing, and preserving cinema. Proceeds from the gala will contribute to museum exhibitions, education initiatives, and public programming aimed at enriching the Los Angeles community and beyond.
Last year’s gala successfully raised over $11 million, showcasing the community’s commitment to the arts and the importance of cinematic storytelling. This year, with a diverse and impactful lineup of honorees, the gala promises to continue building on that success, bringing together prominent figures to celebrate the enduring love for film.
