The launch of a Starlink satellite internet system in Waivaka Village is set to significantly improve connectivity for students and residents in Namosi, a region historically plagued by a lack of internet access. Acting district officer Susana Rokodakonivosa highlighted that the introduction of this advanced connectivity solution marks a critical milestone, especially for secondary and tertiary students who have faced challenges in completing research and online assignments due to connectivity issues.

Rokodakonivosa explained that Namosi has four districts classified as black zones, where residents have previously been unable to access any form of internet service. The Ministry of Communications has initiated a project to install Starlink connectivity in 15 villages throughout Namosi, which will provide both internet and voice services.

The new service will be available at community halls, allowing for shared access among residents, with the primary goal of supporting students while simultaneously benefiting the larger community. The installation in Waivaka Village serves not only this village but also extends to Narukunibua, Nasigatoka, and Namosi Village.

The commissioning of the Starlink systems for the four districts was officiated by Minister for Policing and Communications, Ioane Naivalurua, symbolizing a progressive step towards bridging the digital divide in rural communities. This initiative is expected to enhance educational opportunities and overall connectivity for residents, fostering an environment where learning and development can thrive.
