Prime Video is set to revive the beloved Stargate franchise with a new series, marking an exciting comeback for fans worldwide. The series, simply titled Stargate, is being developed by Amazon MGM Studios, which holds the rights to the franchise. Martin Gero, a veteran of the Stargate universe who has contributed to all three previous live-action series, will serve as the creator and showrunner.
Gero expressed his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting his deep connection to the franchise, which first shaped his television career as a story editor for Stargate: Atlantis. “Stargate taught me everything about making television — it’s written into my DNA,” he said. The Stargate saga originally began with a 1994 feature film by Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich, which led to the creation of three series—Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Stargate Universe—along with additional films and short-lived spin-offs. The upcoming show will be the first television installment since Stargate Universe wrapped up in 2011.
While specific plot details remain under wraps, Prime Video has hinted that the show will represent a “bold new chapter” in the Stargate legacy. Gero will collaborate with notable producers including Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell, alongside franchise veterans Brad Wright and Joe Mallozzi as consulting producers.
